Thanked: 3228Real or synthetic
Anyone know how to differentiate between real mother of pearl scales and synthetic ones.

Thanked: 636No, but I can tell you they are synthetic. It is sold as PEARLEX.m if they were real I believe they would be lined and not all one piece.

Thanked: 4830One piece MOP scales would be rare. They make a product from real MOP that it small pieces laminated and glued together that is possible for this. The pin test will tell you righ away if they are a man made product, as in acrylic or such. If it is not some sort of plastic, my guess would be laminated veneer. They are pretty though. I have a Dovo with plastic scales that sort of look a little like MOP that are not nearly as nice.

Thanked: 3228Yes, I know that they are sold as PEARLEX and have a Dovo symbol on them. If they are old enough they could be real MOP according to this thread http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...ll-hollow.html . They look like the scales in the thread and not like the pearlex scales I have seen.
