    Default Dovo replacement scales

I ordered a couple of the ebony scales to replace the steel scales on a pair of Wapienicas (cheating, I know, I should make my own). Any tricks to this job? Judging from the scales on my Dovo Special, the size is almost exactly the same as the steel Wapi scales.

    Hi Kyle,
I don't have any hints but I am just starting to make my own scales (first time for me, too) for my Wapi. I just took the scales off last night and will begin the scale design and cutting this evening. Let me know how the peening of the pins goes! NickiSpaghetti had a recent thread about Dovo replacement scales and pins being a bit of a disappointment to him (I think he may have bent the pins). There's some good info in the thread, however. Good luck!

How did you remove the original scales?

Since the pins are usually peened, I say either drill out the peened top of the pin, or file it off. Don't use a belt sander or grinder, because that might generate too much heat. Baaaaad thing if the scales are made from cellulose...
