scales
this is the latest effort ,its the hardest I`ve tried to make so far I know there only half finished ,I guess that makes it a sort of before and after
The good news is that unlike the last one where I was out of alignment by
1/16"on one end, everything lines up top and bottom with no gaps.
I know that disaster could be lurking just ahead, hence the pics so far
kind regards Peter

Lookin' good!
What are the blue marks?
How heavy are those suckers when they are finished?
Also, what sort of spacer would you put on something like that?

there is a brass liner plus there will also be a plastic on over that, the spacers are red plastic and the blue marks are texter ,be embarresing if I put the wrong pieces together
They will be surprisingly light realy when I finish because everything is so thin when its all ground down and polished
The next thing is to drill and counter sink all the mop and peen stirling silver wire top and bottom as an added safeguard for the mop the brass is soldered on but the mop is glued. This is the bit I hate one tap too many and the pearl will crack and there is quite a few hours work so far

No I do these to sell, in the USA on ebay, they command a higher price ,but If people knew how many hours go into making these, I would double or triple it ,
however unfortunately it is what the market will bare. They are definitely hand made one off creations,so If a person was to buy one, there is definitely not one the same

Thanked: 1587Yeah, I've noticed the "bower bird" effect on ebay. Could you just sell the service, as opposed to the actual scales? (I guess that wouldn't work on ebay - imagine people bidding on a "per hour price" for scale making...)
But in any event, I think those look beautiful. And although I have no skill in the area myself, I can appreciate the crafstmanship and dedication that goes into it.

progress so far
I have managed to get the 1mm stirling silver wire in and peen top and bottom ,no cracks ,however I`m a bit dissapointed with the MOP there is some very minor blemishes which didn`t show up till every thing was ground down to just under 1.5mm and polished . I could understand if I cut it from a shell my self but when you buy the stuff and pay an arm and a leg by the way I expect it to be perfect I may be able to remove most of it in the final shaping and rounding off the edges, we will see
any way for better or worse this is it so far.
I took some pics edge on ,top and bottom so you can see how every thing lines up
