I use a sand blaster but sub either baking soda or other fine crystal to get a soft matte finish.
That same or similar finish I also use on DD Satinedge razors among others as their shafts should be matte and not polished.Last edited by mycarver; 01-31-2018 at 12:59 PM.

Ive done the vinegar thing before. It worked for me but then i wasnt happy with the look of the finish so started polishing and most of it came back to a shine. I hear blueing looks really cool on the tang but have never tried that. Might be a nice option. Good luck.
It's just Sharpening, right?

be careful if using vinegar to add patina to a blade as i've had it actually make pits (that weren't there before) in the steel. I think bluing is the safer way to go(you can get it at places like Wal-mart, i think Birchwood Casey is the brand). As for the the scales i wonder if they weren't originally clear? If so, plexi-glass works well for that.

I can try to trace my scales this evening. They are fairly transparent yellow, so a yellow acrylic should work. The tang didn't seemed blued, the big thing was the red paint in the letters.

Thanked: 315I don't think my blade was blued either, but that would be a good option for changing the finish and preventing rust under the scales.

Thanked: 315THANKS!!!!!!! I'll PM you. Mine is a 25, but even if they aren't an exact match it will give me something to work with!! I thought maybe they had yellowed with age, but that may very well be the original color. Mine turned even darker though due to rot.
Maybe down the road I can find someone local that does laser etching to make the Temperite logo.
