Default Any Advice for Making Razor Roll?

I was thinking of getting a 7-10 razor roll stitched by someone I know. I'm sure they have never made one before though. Any suggestions on the best dimensions for the pockets? Does it start getting harder to roll them up after a certain number of razors? Best type of fabric? This will be a first attempt so I want to keep it simple. If it goes well and isn't cost prohibitive maybe I can have one done with leather or a soft liner.

    Thanks!

Many of us have rolls made out of a synthetic flannel like material from Mrs. Walleyeman at the 2014 Kansas city meet. The 7 pockets are 2" X 4" and the flap is 6". It works very well. The pockets are very roomy and could be a bit narrower unless you like big razors, but it works great. I'm sure that ten, or even more, pockets would work fine. My personal choice would be to have multiple seven pocket rolls.

I have a few rolls. My favourite one was made by a member here that goes by the screen name greatbolo. It is made from a fantastic grade of material, the pocket are big enough for big razors and the workmanship is also top shelf. The flap is long enough that there is no fear of it falling open. I would PM him first if I went looking for another one.

What don't y'all do at those meets? Thanks. I may try a little narrower pockets on the first one and see how it goes. I could do one for smaller razors and another for larger ones.

Looks like getting the roll made won't be a problem, they just told me to bring enough fabric in the colors I wanted and gave me a quote.

I think I'll get the roll made longer than the pockets and flap so I'll have extra material to wrap around some when I roll it up though.

What type of fabric did he use to line the roll with?

Be careful of leaving them tied in hot weather, it can warp the scales..

    I have three different rolls

One is a Synthetic much like the Razor sleeves are made of (14)
One is a SOFT tanned leather that is simply beautiful (10)
One is a soft Flannel Pouch (3)

I'll keep that in mind. That would be a problem. I don't want to roll them up tight, just put then in something I place somewhere less accessible to curious little hands.

If you do make a roll for razor storage, remember that razors vary in both width, length, and tail length. If all your razors are 5/8" width with standard 2 3/4" blades and standard tails, you might be able to get away with smaller pockets. However, if you ever decide to purchase a 8/8" width or larger custom blade with a 3" or longer blade and a long tail, you will wish you have made the pockets (or at least some of them) a little larger. The material that goes into the pouch is cheap compared to the cost of the time for sewing it, so don't skimp.

Yeah, and I was thinking extra room in the pockets probably helps it roll up more nicely without squeezing them together. Just got back home with some fabric and black flannel to line it with. I don't have any leather string to tie it with. I may just use Paracord or something without stitching it to the roll.
