    Default Have Dremel, what next?

I have a few ebay specials that shave well, but they're tarnished with slight rust here and there. I also have a new dremel rotary tool - it's the variable speed model with all of the attachments. I think it's the deluxe dremel kit.

How should I approach restoring these blades? I have a nice 7/8 WB with rotten scales...my thoughts are to cut the pins, remove the scales, buff up the steel and buy replacement scales and pins somewhere. Any thoughts? How does one best restore the steel with a dremel? Which attachments work best? Thanks so much!

    Not.
You can easily remove the pin by drilling out the head with a very fine drill.

Then you spend countless hours, handsanding with different grits until the blade is true and clean again.
Only then do you use the dremel with a buffing wheel and polishing compound to bring out the mirror shine.

At least that's what I do. I tried using the dremel, but it didn't work for me. I prefer the control I get with handsanding. Additionally, a mistake during handsanding is harmless. A mistake when dremeling can ruin your blade, as many here already know from experience.

Our member Jason (ToXik) has a thread here somewhere about making custom drum wheels for sanding straights but I can't find it atm.

    Default Toxik's tutorials

Here's the link to the thread that he put up for his second Dremel tutorial, but in the first post, he's got a link to the first as well! He's very informative.
