    Default opinion on blade

im restoring a very old wade n butcher - for barber use. its 8/8, has the notch in the front as a standard butcher but the tang is much more straight then the standard curved ones i have. when i got it, it was very beat up but from the best i could tell was that it was satin finished instead of the mirror finish.

so, what do you think. should i satin finish(grind mark look) the restoration or go all the way up to a mirror finish?

I've read some of the posts on this subject, and most seem to say that the mirror finish is more resistant to rust than the brushed finish. That's not an issue for me because I put a thin coat of Camellia oil on all my razors, even the ones I have in rotation

Asthetically speaking, I really like the brushed finish, though. I have a couple of Bill Ellis razors and he seems to use that technique. Maybe it's because they are the best shavers I have, but I just like the look of them.

    Regards,

    Steve

It really depends on your personal preferences. Mirror is more resistant to spotting but you can leave it in satin if you like the look. Another option is to go dual... The spine and the tang in satin and the blade faces in mirror (f.ex.)
