Thanked: 315Barbicide & UV Cabinet Questions
I've had an unopened bottle of Barbicide for a few years and cannot find an expiration date on it. Any idea what the shelf life is for this stuff?
Also, anyone used a UV cabinet for sterilizing? We have a sterilizing cabinet we were given to use on baby bottles, but I've considered using it on razors. I'm wondering if they get hot enough to warp scales or damage celluloid.
Thanks- Joshua

TBH, I don't see a need for either on your personal razors.
If you were shaving a jillion unknown customers with the same blade, then yes.

Only times I have used herbicide was before I sent a razor to someone

Oh, I should have said barbicide.
That blue stuff you clean a commode with would probably work just as wellIf you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

No doubt. I would never immerse any scales in it.
Wipe it off with alcohol and be done, Josh!

Thanked: 315I wouldn't want to sterilize my blades all the time, but you never know where they have been when you get them!
I usually just clean well and use alcohol. I figure Rem Oil probably kills some stuff on the blade too.
Any ideas about the shelf life of the Barbicide???? Seems a waste to chunk it if it is still good and definitely better for killing viruses than alcohol.
Anyone tried a UV cabinet?- Joshua

Thanked: 292If your Barbicide is in a sealed container and kept in a cool,, dark place, I would think it would still be good for a very long time. If it were kept in bright sunlight or in a hot place, then it might lose some effectiveness.
Concerning the comment about Rem oil, according to the MSDS sheet, Rem oil is essentially a 50/50 mixture of mineral spirits and petroleum distillates, so I would not count on it doing much in the way of disinfecting. Alcohol (either ethyl or isopropyl) would be a better disinfectant. I
