    Default Neatsfoot Oil Brand Brand?

    Hello Gentleman,
I have some questions about neatsfoot oil.

Did a quick search and found that there are additives in some brands.
On another forum, a gun forum, some guys suggested pure neatsfoot as opposed to anything with additives.

Saw some at Wally world for $6 made by Herman Survivors (bought by wal-... and now less quality product).
Wondering if I should search for a better brand and what you guys suggest..?

    Thanks for the help

I got my pure stuff at Big R. Didn't cost much either. So if you got one of those store close by...

I use Fiebing's 100% pure neetsfoot oil from Amazon.

I've been trying to cram in some reading on neatsfoot oil, and there are varying opinions on the leather forums.
It would seem that you want either 100% or something with only mineral oil added. One person who says he works in leather industry for years.. never uses it.
Now that is probably a different story than with SR scales, but maybe there are more considerations I'm missing..?

    No BigR close by.
But I did read that Fiebings is good.

I use it to soak horn scales in. I have an empty epi-pen container that I fill with neetsfoot oil and suspend the scales in from a paper clip. If you use it in STROPS less is more. Rub in well and remove any excess with rag or paper towel.

Get the pure as petroleum additives help break down leather and I don't imagine it would be good for horn either in the long run. All we ever used on horse tack after cleaning it with saddle soap was a little bit of pure Neats Foot oil to keep it supple.

Well I guess I have to be the stick in the mud so to speak. But it really depends what you are going to use it for.

I use the Dr. Jackson's neatsfoot oil compound. Yes it does have additives. Pure neatsfoot oil does not have some of these additives (different oils) that I need for saddles, boots, and harnesses that we use. If you're out on a horse all day in the Texas sun, it can reap havoc on your leather gear and really dry it out.

I use it on my strops as well. Haven't experienced any problems yet.

Nothing wrong with being a stick in the mud. You are going by your practical experience.

I use the Fiebings also. Check out some farming stores, Mike. Places like farm n fleet, town n country. Might even look at some pet shops.
