How often do you also relieve the flat side to allow a surface width differential between spine and edge. The original surface was about one wide at edge to three wide at spine to leaving less meat at the edge, allowing the better honing of the edge. Why ruin a good Kamisori by honing the flat to a plane surface. Ditto on microtomes.
Maybe tape on the curved side spine for honing would be ok, but not on the flat

There is no flat side

Both sides of a Traditional Kamisori (Wa kamisori) are hollow, they are just Asymmetrical

You could also re-grind the front (kanji) side but unless people really abused the honing they are rarely as worn as the backside

Thank you, I have some difficulty communicating that which I want to say.
I used "flat side" because i do not remember the Japanese designations.

Some of the old ones I own are ready for that asymmetrical relieving process by the next honing; that is why i asked. Some are heavily abused; along with a microtome or two and I do-not want to continue the degradation of them..

You can see there is minimal wear compared to te backside


Now when it comes to using tape I am a firm believer in getting imaginative, Jimmy and I messed with and talked about some pretty cool ways to make Microtomes way more comfortable to shave with years back. (We were weird like that )

You can for sure use different layers from front to back and it works WAY easier then regrinds, most of the time Kamisori just don't have the extra steel to do stuff like this anyway

I remember a gouge-tool I saw and shared a while back.....
Was used to redo the back side after it was worn almost flat.
