Thread: Practice Scales

Gents, the workshop thread is full of folks that are somewhere along their journey of learning to make/pin straight razors. I have a bunch of scales I can't use in my business because I made some kind of mistake on them. Some are only good for practice. I would use many of them on a personal razor, though have already scaled them.

I'm donating these scales, including free worldwide shipping, to SRP. Interestingly, a regular #10 envelope ships worldwide with three stamps and I can put a pair of scales in a #10.

We have folks who want to try making scales, but don't have the tools. No problem, got you covered. We have folks who want learn how to recover from mistakes, got you covered. Want to practice with a new material? Have you covered.

Scales 1-5 are horn and bone. They are only good for practice and won't make good scales, unless you want a banana shaped horn scale.

The rest of them mainly fall into these categories.

Mistake in drilling the holes - they can be filled with the right kind of epoxy and re-drilled.
Mistake with shaping them. Most of these were shaped until too small or shaped where they are a straight line. I think you can use the small ones on a 5/8 razor.

He must be a perfectionist because a few years ago I paid for scales that unfortunately ended up not being as nice as these.
Ordered some shaving soap and a DE blade disposal box from his site and he generously added some other items! Shaving soap and bar soap smell nice but I haven't used them yet.

Wish I could put these scales on now!:cry
