    Question Repairing Broken Tang????

Wondering the best course of action here. A welder I was referred to said he could build weld it and shape to fit. Wanted to find out what people that had made/repaired blades thought.
I don't want to grind the whole tang down to fit since it wouldn't fit in the case the way it is supposed and it just wouldn't look right.

    Thanks

There are some talented people out there. I have to say I have gotten some crazy things built by welder, but nothing that small. I bet it could be done. I’d say if that welder thinks be can build it up and shape it, he probably can.

Yeah, he may be able to do a nice job. I don't know much about welding. It was so small I thought it might need something like laser Welding to make it look good. Again, I don't know much about welding. I wish I could get my brother to teach me a little when I'm visiting sometime.

You could also do a covered tang type deal with pins through the cover and tang for strength and stability.

Given that it should be a relatively low stress area, you could probably even solder it and use a heat sink on the blade end of the tang, which is definitely easier, probably lower temperature than welding, and reversible if it doesn't work.

Covered tang? Do you mean having a pin running from inside the tang into the attached piece?

Link to the thread? Hopefully Google translate would be sufficient to understand, or he took a lot of pictures.

Schwabenchris sent me a link to the thread. They silver soldered a broken tang back together. It looked really good. I wish I had the piece that broke off of my razor to do that.

Get some piece of carbon steel and start filing? I guess it does not have to be hardened just to keep the blade in the holding system
