Thanked: 3226There is another way covered tangs were done way back. The blade had a stub of a tang and the tang was one piece of ivory carved to look like a tang. It was fastened to the stub of the tang by inserting the stub into a mortise cut to fit in the ivory. the ivory was pinned to the stub with a rod peened flat on both side ala scales. A second hole was drilled through the ivory for the pivot point pin.

I think we want to replicate the broken piece so the blade will click-into the tang on the proprietary scales?
Yes. Someone with TIG can buzz a piece in there. Hand-fitment from there.
