Flush Cutter
My cheap jewelry flush cutter that I've used for years, lost a jaw today(pin vs cutter, pin won.)
Since this is really a workhorse for my razor repair work, I'd like to get opinions on the best ones out there.

Thanked: 13246Honestly I have tried a few of them at varied prices
I gave up and went back to the CHEAP ones from Harbor Freight,,, the trick to any of them is you polishing the bottom
I think the HF ones have a slightly more shallow angle and it helps with what we need them to do
Mine are polished to a mirror finish on the bottom and work perfectly for what we want

Like Glen, I've found that the $4.00 Harbor Freight work great.
I used my table top belt sander with 120 grit to flatten the bottom, then went to my DMT 325 to get the 120 scratches out then to 1K diamond plate and then to the buffers.
They sure do the job well and if they break, Harbor Freight is about 1/4 mile from me and they almost always have a 20 or 25% off coupon---Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Thank you, I did exactly that.
I had the time for some pinning today so didn't want to wait for something to ship. Picked up 2 of them and a few other helpful items as well.

How about a plier style nail clipper? Cutting edge is a bit curved like scales usually are.

Thanked: 13246I think over here what you are talking about are called Cuticle Nippers, they are very similar, but like many Flush Cutters they have a rather High Angle of attack, so they Pulled the pin tight rather drastically..
So far what I have come to find out it the lower /more Flat the angle the less scales go SNAP !!!!
Oh and just a warning if you want to try Cuticle Nipper go buy your own to try, DO NOT use the ones your wife uses, they WILL know and they WILL bitch"No amount of money spent on a Stone can ever replace the value of the time it takes learning to use it properly"

Roy - I followed your lead here and went to Harbor Freight and bought these flush cutters. I honed the back as you did until it was flush and polished it. I just cut the pins from my pipe razor and it went through the brass pins like butter. No scratches on the scales! Outstanding!

I'm glad that you are pleased with the performance of those modified $4 HF cutters. However 100% of the credit goes to Glen (gssisgun) as it was through him that I found out about the cutters.
