Coffee Scoop in Ebony!
I just couldn't contain myself and had to go out and turn something. I bought this scoop at Woodcraft as a kit. Not much of a kit. Make a handle and press the scoop in, but I thought it was something SWMBO would like and use. Maybe it will help to keep me out of the dog house.
So I cut off 5 inches of ebony from a 18x1.5x1.5 stick I had and gave it hell. My new tools are not as sharp as they should be is the first thing I found out. I will need to do some sharpening as soon as my Grinder comes in the mail. So here it is. Looks nice if you ask me, but what do I know. I sanded it up to 1K then applied only three coats of C.A. as I ran out. I'm hoping to be able to do a few pens along with brush handles and a few bowls soon. Time will tell. For now, I'm trying to recover from the cost of all these damn tools. I did get my 4 jawed Chuck in the mail. It came with 2 sets of jaws. Anyway, Here you go. A few pics.
Aaron, What lines do you keep talking about? It's just Sharpening, right?

Elegant! Does this mean that you now have to postpone additional tool purchases
until you buy SWMBO a new super-deluxe espresso machine to go along with it?"If you come up to it, and you just can't do it, then that's jolly well where you are."

Thanked: 556Down another rabbit hole Jerry. Are you still going to have time for razors?

Yes, good job Jerry! Did you first draw a sketch of what you wanted or just wing it free hand? Either way it's a nice shape.

This was freehand, Vern.
I kept thinking it should be thinner but with the shape of the scoop I think its ok.
Im still playing with razors too. I think its part of the small print at the bottom of the page that i have to to be an SRP Mentor. It's just Sharpening, right?

Hmmm, I got a spindle of Brazilian Ebony from Woodcraft. Sometimes it's hard to tell what's what under the wax. And wood common names can be very confusing, as I'm finding out with stuff like Katalox (aka Mexican Royal Ebony), or Bhilwara (aka Ceylon Rosewood (but it's not a true rosewood)). Gibson guitars calls it Black Siris.
