See some of the 'old' threads on clippercide and barbicide. Both work great and are guaranteed to kill any nasties that previous owners may inadvertently try to pass on...AIDS, Hep A, Hep B, etc...

I dont think listerine would be strong enough, maybe rubbing alcohol

I use rubbing alcohol.
Blood bourne baddies only live a short time outside the body. After a couple of days / weeks, there is virtually no chance that anything really bad still lives on a razor blade.
As long as the blade is clean and you rub it with alcohol, you should be safe.
Especially if you honed the razor from scratch, because you will have a brand new and clean edge that touches your face.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

I've also read that Maas, Flitz, etc contain ammonia which should help. A little hot soapy water and some rubbing alcohol and I feel good to go. On another thread, someone pointed out that we routinely put silverware in our mouths at restaurants and trust that they have been "sanitized". Considering this, I don't think we have too much to worry about once reasonable precautions have been taken.

I use a can of Dettol spray disinfectant which claims to kill 99.9% of bacteria & viruses.
You just spray it on & allow it to dry.
I believe its similar to the contact disinfectant thats used in hospitals.Paul

Thanked: 070% alcohol (ethanol or isopropanol aka rubbing alcohol) are a common disinfectant for sterilizing in labs. You could even flame them after dipping them in alcohol but this sometimes leaves a black residue if left over the flame too long. The ammonia in windex and other such cleaners work well.

You can also use lysol spray and if your really anal about this just soak the blade in a strong chlorox solution for an hour or so. That will kill anything, just make sure the blade is off the scales, you don't want to get the bleach on scales unless they are newer plastic types.
