Thanked: 1That one where nothing goes right?
I got a box of stuff from a guy at a flea market for a good price, he had a couple Sheffields and Solingens, but one random one I decided to play around I just couldn't get anything to right. The blade had some sharpening damage, so I tried to reprofile it and a big chunk breaks out. Ok, fine. Try to get the pins out to reuse the scales and those won't come out no matter what I do to them. I think they're rusted beyond salvage, so ok whatever.
Into the F-it bucket.

Thanked: 556What’s worse is when everything goes right and then the blade cracks while honing after you’ve cleaned it up and put it in new scales and the pins look just right..

We've all been there, one way or another.
I had a nice Ern I was restoring that I'd knocked off the table at the finishing stages.
Hit the floor just right....watched as half the width of the blade, exploded into shrapnel.Mike

Yep. Had a beautiful ERN (I know. What a coincidence ) got it to look beautiful and while pinning got a crack right in the middle of the blade. To quote... somebody: "I feel your pain"
