Tula razor restauration
Bought this nice Tula razor for about 5 bucks and wondered why nobody else was bidding.
So I looked a bit more on the fotos of the seller (after I bought it ) and it was clear why:
A long crack was going from the end of the blade near the thumbnotch deeply into the blade.
But fortunately the blade was long and the crack did go straight in a nealry 90° angel into the blade. So easily to grind out.
A comparison before and after restauration:
Since my thumbs are getting much thicker with the age - a larger thumbnotch might be fortunate in the future
Razor has yet to be polished and honed. Quite sure it will give some great shaves.
Regards Peter

Thanked: 556A purist collector would have difficulty losing some of the etching, but a real wet shaver would be very happy with a quality blade. Nice save. I hope it hones up well for you.

You are right - for a pure collector the razor might be worthless. But same with a razor that has a crack.
The crack was going deep until the right corner of the "R" from the word razor. Indeed I was thinking for a short time to only grind out the crack from the edge line and leave the rest as it is. Than I could have saved the ectching with the wording at least. And a shave would have been generally possile. But - there is the risk that hair is getting stuck during a shave or that the crack is expanding. So too much risk in my opinion for proper shaves. Thats why I always go as deep as necessary to grind out the whole crack in a razor.

Nicely done. You could always remove the etch completely or partially leaving the circled Tula in the middle and none would be the wiser. Of course unless it was to be sold to a collector maybe it doesn't matter unless it just bothers you to look at it.

Thanked: 4827For what you paid for it and the fact that you were able to recover a shaving razor from it, it’s a great value.
