    Default Scale material

Where are some good places to get scale material? Micarta and G10 mostly, but interested in all other materials too.

It varies with the material of course

I use Masecraft quite a bit for G10 and Micarta

They have several different sections so you may have to do a little browsing but they have a tremendous inventory of different materials including imitation, mammoth and fossil ivory. At least they used to.

Oh yeah, Jerry and you other gents doing lathe work would probably find his inventory interesting. They have a whole section of wood turning materials. Also for you John and you other gun enthusiasts, they have another whole section of gun grip stock and also another one for knife scales. Quite an inventory they have.

I found their prices for horn blanks to be very competitive also.

Sadly, nothing of much interest lathe-wise IMHO.
They do advertise natural material, but in the whole turning section, except for a tiny and ultra expensive mammoth rod it's plastic imitation everywhere.

    Thanks for the tip though!
Beautiful is important, but when all is said and done, you will always be faithful to a good shaver while a bad one may detter you from ever trying again. Judge with your skin, not your eyes.

Horn and bone are my choice of scale material. I have a serious stash of both.

I've been working on more dog bone scales (see what are you working on thread) and I can see why bone is more expensive. Man that's a lot of work pulling pieces that big out of a single bone, even a cow femur. It takes a lot of twists and turns. The sets I'm making are oversized too so that makes.it even more of a challenge.

I have cuut a few pieces and it makes way more sense to let the guys in India and Vietnam cut them.
