Default Bovine keratin scales in need of fissure repair

I have a set of horn scales that have the classic crack near the pivot hole. My question is can you take some of the material I sand off and mix with the epoxy to match color etc.etc. ( I have done this with acrylic and had good results) or would the compromise the epoxy since horn
    is a natural material?

If its only a crack you can superglue it. If there is a warp to the scales then Union them first. Clamp each side between two pieces of flat wood. Pour hot (not boiling) water over scales and let cool thoroughly before removing clamps.

Short answer is "yes" but getting the patch to match exactky is a trick. Try adding some to some epoxy and let it dry on some cellophane first as a test that will help you get the hang of how much to mix to make it as close ad possible.
