    Default JR Torrey rebuild

Well Last night I started really digging into the JR Torrey I got in a lot off Ebite. See pic...

The pic looks like a blue scaled razor with some rough spots but not that bad. Of course as pics do... it lied... The color was off and the scales are indeed black.. on black, they where filthy. And the rest of the razor was not much better, in fact it was at least twice as bad as the pic shows. However I was expecting rust as it clearly stated rusty in the discription, I knew what I was getting into.

I spent most of last night with MAAS and a wire wheel attachment to get as much of the active rust off that I could. An hour later I was ready to move on to another project just for a break, there was still a bit of rust that I couldn't get to with the scales on, and I didn't want to get into that last night, I had to get up in a few hours and open the restraunt...

So tonight I tried again to get the rust off without removing the scales, no dice. So off the scales came. Very clean removal, I was suprised. It took all of 10 mins to get the actice rust removed and give the whole blade a good rubbing with MAAS. I cut another spacer for the pivot pin and re set the scales in no time flat, that tends to worry me Yup my anvil is still the bottom of my DMT plate and a spoon for a hammer, some day I'll be rich enough to afford a hammer

So with shiny tight scales and clean surfaces I decided to get the stones out to start the bevel building... Well it dawned on me after about 10 mins or so on the King 1200 that I was still a ways off from the edge. The edge looked like a serrated knife. Should have remembered what it looked like yesterday... So I got out the DMT 320 and taped the spine up. Now I don't know what steel Torrey used but it is some tough stuff, Ive got about 45 mins or so on the DMT and I still have onely removed about half the frigging chips. Mind you these are not big, they are just MANY...

Well thats where I am at the moment, I'm surfing the forums avoiding getting back to the task at hand... I'll get more pics up in a few...
