    Default my first(and 2nd) project

so i think that every single person who enjoys str8 shaving enough ends up with some level of RAD. along with the RAD, i believe that most have the desire for 'the razor'. you know, the one that you really want. well, up until this week, mine has been a 8/8 wade & butcher. last week i won a 7/8 W&B off ebay. close enough to 'my razor' for me. i fully intend to leave alone after honing and just shave with it.

so saturday the wife and i decided to so antiquing. my excuse to get us out and enjoying a beautiful day. 5-6 shops down, nothing worth anything to myself, but bought the wife a few things. last shop, walked around did not see anything. as leaving, queried the owner for any str8s. said she thought there was one more up front, but did not think i would be interested. i walked up to the counter, looked in, and saw the box. great condition, a little oversized, and 'Wade & Butcher Sheffield' on the front. when i opened the box, i was a tab bit excited. a W&B 8/8, etched with a nice cornucopia with flowers coming out of it. minimal hone wear in my opinion, and one small rust spot on the spine that i did not notice till later. the downside, broken scales. so with a pessimistic swallow, i asked how much. '$5.00 ok?' well, yes. perfect.

i have seen many posts here asking if they overpaid for a str8. and numerous times i have seen the response that a particular person would not have paid that, but the value is to the owner. for me, $5 for 'the razor' is a deal. also, gives me the chance for my first true restoration project. so as things go on, i will give updates, but for now, happy to have 2 big W&Bs.

my other project is a Boker Red Injun i picked up off ebay. i have heard good things about this razor and wanted one. the scales need to be replaced, and once i got it, i noticed it had a bit more rust spots on it than the pics seemed to show. well, as i was playing with my new 'the razor' i was able to get the small rust spot off of it relatively easy with a 180 then 320 grit sanding sponge. so i used this on the injun. i immediately went from hating that i bought it, to being very happy that i bought it. no pics of the injun yet, but i will get some uploaded soon

so as both projects come along, i will update. i am thinking wood scales for each, just not sure of the type of wood or the shape.

Beautiful razor; definately keep the forum updated as you make progress.

I'll be really interested to see how it turns out mate.

i was able to snap off a couple of photos of the injun last night before dozing off. not sure of what to do with new scales for this one, but it will come to me. not in such a hurry, but will still make a nice project.

Looks like you've got some good times ahead with these. I'm sure they'll turn out great and you've even got the original wedge for the W&B.
    Very Cool!
