Quick update: It's my second night sanding the blade. Weird work hours prevent me from more dedication to this project. Any way ...

The etching was quite faint -- even less visible than in the photos -- so it went easily. Now that area of the blade just has a field of slight texture where the Silver Steel logo once was. Most of the rest of the pitting is similar, near the spine on both sides. I'm making a bit of progress, and definitely learning to better appreciate what so many of you have been doing as a hobby.

Oh .. and I'm keeping as much of the engraving on the shank as I can.

    Update!

I've been working on her for a few nights, not so consecutive. I did leave some pitting, but I removed a good deal of steel, and I don't feel right taking off any more.

So now the next step is scales! I don't have a reliable work place to use (I'm limited to my patio, and I don't have a useful table) so I'm tempted to have those done for me.

Thank you, everyone, for your help and advice so far!

I have an old Sheffeild which i was going to sell on, but after reading through this i may clean it up properly. Was a cheap one so dont mind if i cock it up too much, practice is practice.

Well done on yours, looking forward to seeing the finished item.

    Cheers

    Eastree,

Looks nice. I'm working on a Wostenholm right
now. Took A LOT of work with 180 grit, but
it's on its way. Post more pictures when you get
    a chance.

    John
