easy way to rebalance Wapienica
Have a gander at the following quick-n-dirty modified scale photo for my idea to rebalance a Wapi.
If you're not interested in replacing the scales, and you simply want something more balanced for actual shaving, what's to say you couldn't easily drill a few "rebalancing" holes through the scales?
I would suggest putting larger holes furthest from pivot to remove most material, get most bang for the buck in terms of rebalancing... and you could mix up the hole sizes like I suggested, or do something else!
I would personally put a fitted piece of wood between the scales (and below bottom scale) before drilling to make sure it doesn't make an awful mess when drill bit breaks through the scale.
How do you like that idea? First person to take photos of their "rebalanced" Wapi gets bragging rights! But you heard it here first!

Hi Paulo,
Actually, this idea was floated by another member in either September or October as I recall - I can't remember if he actually did it, but it did generate some really good discussion as to hole diameter, techinique for drilling, etc.
Good idea all the same.

OK, you *didn't* hear it here first, but maybe first after the Great Crash :P
I'm getting 2 Wapi's, and will try to drill one, will post photos when it's ready.
Considering scales are extremely low stress items, you can get away with some pretty thin ligaments of metal between the hole and edges of the scales... but something on the scale of the largest hole I showed is as large as I would aestethically like.
I like the idea that you will be able to see glimpses of the blade while it is resting inside the scales... sleeping with one eye open, ready to pounce at the next beardo who comes its way!

Thanked: 13245Works out kinda nice doesn't it, I ran the holes a little farther along the scales. I like the way yours came out though...
The idea wasn't mine either, I was talking about just doing something simple on a Wapi in chat one night and another member said something about making it lighter the same way brake rotors are done and one thing lead to another

May be a dumb question,
What did you use to mark out the holes they look very acurate?
