What was that wood?!
There was a type of wood mentioned in this area of the forum a while back, and I forget the name of it. I believe it started with an "L". It was compared to ironwood, but suppose to be better. Actually, it was rated as the end-all be-all of wood.
I think the post was lost in the crach of '08
Anyone have any ideas?

I know of...
Larch,
Lati,
Which I can't find a good picture of...
Lignum Vitae,
Limbali,
and Longui.
Which I can't find a good picture of either...
Any of them ring a bell?Last edited by BrianB; 02-06-2008 at 10:22 PM.

Thanked: 1212I remember a thread about Lignum Vitae.
Heavy (it sinks!), incredibly tough and hard at the same time, durable, has a greenish color.
Often used as a sole on high-end wooden planes.

Lignum Vitae = Ironwood I believe. It's heavy and waxy, has a very tight grain and is hard to get in large pieces without flaws.
