Default Is this blade shape original?

Hi guys, me again. Now I was over a C Utz's place a couple weeks ago and we talked about this blade. (HI CHRIS!) Now the one thing I cant remember is if the shape of this edge is original? I seem to remember C Utz saying it was but I want to make sure!

It has a lot of wear but I would say it had a smile to start. I just finished one like this only bigger wth that natural smile

Yep, a prime example of an early frameback.

    Hello Derek!

    Yep!

    I still say it's original!

Let me know if you want to restore those horn scales....you CAN bring those back from the dead....

OH, and a little history on ye ol' razor you have there:

    WADE, ROBERT
    Sheffield
    1810 - 1818 ("Old Sheffield Razors" by Lummus. Antiques, December 1922 p.261-267)

Let me know if you plan on getting rid of that razor!!!! She has a home in my collection!!

Even before I saw Cutz' post I would have said early 1800s sheffield razor.
I have seen more in that shape. I have a John Barber of nearly the same age that looks a bit like that.

Yes, I think it looked like that when it was new. (minus the rust and the wear of course )

It is original,it is not a frameback,it is a wedge made by Robert Wade in sometime around 1818 as stated above.Wade Butcher also made one of the same shape at this time.I have almost new examples of both and they are the same shape as yours.Frameback razors were not made until much later.Best Regards gary

The one that I restored is this one:
    http://straightrazorpalace.com/showthread.php?t=13054

It only has the Masonic symbol on the front of the tang.
The back of the tang has 'patent tempered steel'
EDIT: it is also longer than the normal length. the cutting edge itself is 3 and 3/8.

I have one coming my way that has his name, with the masonic symbol underneath it.

I had another one like the first, except it was 6/8 instead of 11/16, and NOS.
I sent it to one of our masonic members here who wanted to own one for its history.
