    Default Oxidized Bakelite???

I have a vintage Geneva that I like, more personal value than anything. Any thoughts on how to refresh the bakelite or early plastic scales? They seem to be oxidized. I thought about using a little automotive rubbing compound. They are in fine shape - just a little gray and dull....Any thoughts?

I have the same issues with my pipe stems - I use one of two methods. If you have time, the preferred method is to wet your thumb and rub it vigourously overly the oxidized bakelite.

Alternatively, you can use a Mr. Clean Magic eraser very lightly and then wash it very well when you're done.

I've done both and they are both effective, just be careful with the Magic Eraser (i.e. don't use a lot of pressure, and keep your strokes to a minimum).

Of course, the usual disclaimer - YMMV.

I use NOVUS. It is a polish for plastics and acrylics. Comes in three strengths. 3 (Heavy cream), 2 (Fine cream), 1 (Final Liquid)

Maas does a credible job on these. I will also follow up with a polymer wax. It makes them sparkle.
