and ordered thuya, amboyna, olive and snakeskin woods this morning.

Do you mind posting where you are ordering from?

I didn't see snakewood available, but I did point RobertF to Rockler.com last night in chat (I think it was Robert!.)

Here is what they carry: http://www.rockler.com/CategoryView.cfm?Cat_ID=1456

What kind of saw are you using? I'm using a scroll saw with skip tooth and double tooth blades. It's a good thing these blades are cheap.

I found my wood on flea-bay.

If you search for knife scales you will find some wonderful materials.
A bit pricey but the variety is impressive.

As was pointed out Rockler has some nice 1/8" stock. I am tending towards 1/4" stock so I can have more meat to play with.

Yeah, I'd say watch out with the snakewood. Obviously guys use it, but it is VERY prone to cracking and a lot of places soak it in CA to help try to prevent this.

I've been doing gross cuts with a dovetail saw and sanding to shape.

I just picked up a jewelers saw (very fine coping saw) that I'm going to try out tonight.

    Default Wood Stabilizing?

Another question... Does anyone have any good links to wood stabilizing?
I'm looking for a cheap home mason jar solution.

    heat, vacuum and some junk.?

    Thanks,
    Bob
