Thanked: 0Making them myself seems like the best option so far. My only concern with wood scales would be water resistance. I usually use plain tung oil on my projects, would a few coats of this keep the scales in good shape for a few years of being rinsed every day?

Tung oil or CA (aka super glue) will work fine. Oily woods (eg, desert ironwood) don't necessarily need anything. And honestly, I almost never get my scales wet... in fact, I try to avoid getting water/lather anywhere near the hinge pins, too... and if I do I blow dry with a hair dryer. YMMV

To answer your original post, you won't find anything cheaper than $11 scales. To put $11 scales on this blade would be a shame. The $25 and up scales at CS most likely will fit your blade. If you want more variety, but don't want wood, there are those who can do horn, bone and other exotic materials, but it will cost many times $11. For about what the more expensive CS Dovo scales will cost, Traveller can do you some acrylic scales in a variety of colors and designs.
