Pitting at the Edge
I just picked up a razor off of Ebay. It could be a nice one, but has some pitting that extends down to the edge. I realize that one would have to see it, but generally, is this something that can be fixed or is this razor a total loss? Thanks!

Without pictures it is hard to say. It is possible to hone past the pits. Does it look something like the before picture on this one?

Well, that's encouraging. It doesn't look nearly that bad. Thanks! Maybe I'll send this one to you Ken.

EDIT: I doubt I could get pictures clear enough to show the damage.

Thanked: 0if the pitting is deep enough to remain after the hone, you may have an issue. even microscopic pitting close to the edge can give you a less-than-desirable serrated bevel. i'm having this issue with a boker red injun (pics gone the way of the crash. i'll repost when i finish the project). i've removed all the rust, and smoothed things nicely with 0000 steel wool and maas, but upon 15x inspection, my bevel is still pitted. i am going to try honing the edge back a mm or 2 and re-examine.
