Scale Formula
I've got a couple of razors without scales, and I was wondering how you guys go about making scales from scratch. I'm assuming you just kind of "eyeball" it, but was curious if there is some kind of secret formula! I've laid out the razor on paper and kind of sketched a pattern for it, anything better? Also, what do you guys use for templates? I'm thinking about drawing everything on the plastic from a milk carton, which has always been my "go to" material for templates.

Jacques had a very nice description, but hidden in that thread was a post by Seraphim with a link to Rockler

which solves my major stumbling block on making my own scales: getting a piece of good wood down to a smooth 1/8" piece. I've already ordered 4 kinds of wood from them, at 24" long, that's enough for 16 sets of scales. I'm fairly confident in being able to do all the other stuff, but without a table saw or a planer getting a good original slab to start with was a frustrating experience. I got Bloodwood, Wenge, Paduak, and Purpleheart for cheaper than I could buy the equivalent amount in large pieces locally!

As a suggestion, the two links above are great basic instructions.
Since there is a discussion about creating a "Resto 101" sticky, perhaps it could include these links to give some ideas to folks jumping into scales (like me). Adding some pinning thread links would be helpful too!
Just a thought....
