Thread: Sticky Proposal: What Every New Restorer Wants To Know

Ok I think this is a great idea, but in oder to keep the noise down, what do you think of the following:

I make a sitcky with useful information, like the links already gathered by smythe.
I lock the thread to keep out the noise and the discussions.

If you want to add info to the sticky thread, start a new discussion so that anyone can have their say. I'll clean up the conversation afterwards if that is needed, and add it to the sticky thread.

That way we'll have a useful and clean starting point where all useful info can be indexed, while still allowing everyone to have their say in the individual topic.

If I can get a couple of 'aye's from you guys I'll get it done.

EDIT: To explain why I want to do it this way:
I cannot make a sticky for every individual topic, since that would really clutter up the forum.
I also do't like to have a sticky thread that gets used as a discussion place, because after a while it will have 200 replies and it will become useless as a reference / index.
By locking the sticky thread while leaving the topical discussions open, anyone has a quick way to the different items while still having the opportunity to discuss them in the appropriate place.

Great idea. I do think cleaning up the un-needed posts is a great idea also. Especially jokes/repeated information. How many stickys can we make? In the restoration section, there are a lot of topics that newbies ask about over and over without bothering to do a search first. Is there any way to make a sticky encouraging them to do a search (and/or buy Bill's cd like I suggested)?

Well, it will never be truly finished, but you can see it already. it is at the top of this forum.
