    Default Another Alternative Method

Forgive me if this one has been mentioned previously.

I have a friend who actively collects pocket knives. He mentioned using and ultrasonic cleaner with kerosene and the medium to clean rust from a blade.

This would not provide any abrasive to smooth a finish, but I may give this a try....might be a pre-bath to the shell tumbler.

    Default Kerosene

I have used this in the past to clean up gun parts by putting a cup of kerosene in the media....

It does work however here are some of the reasons I stopped using it....

    1. Flammable material
    2. Harmful and noxious fumes
    3. Flammable fumes being produced
    4. Risk of damaging the plastic tumbler bowl because of using petroleum distillates in it...

All this of course can be avoided by using this under safe conditions outside, in a metal tumbler bowl, or an actual parts cleaning unit......
