Mack
In a fit of excitement recently I bought
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=120232880858
because I wanted a Mack razor...
However upon its arrival i'm pretty dissappointed in it. not really that it was descibed poorly, I guess I just wasn't quite prepared.
It has a slight frown and a LOT of hone wear...
Wondering if anyone here might be up to the task of trying to restore the blade? I tried to clean up the edge on my pasted strop and may try a few strokes with it tonight, as the edge *appears* sharp, and does a fine job of shaving arm hair..
But with the clipped off tip, is it even worth while? Though I've actually found a lot of times I wished I had a shorter razor, so that may be nice.
The shoulderless "loxley" looks great, and should clean up with no problem...Last edited by bbshriver; 03-22-2008 at 10:14 PM.

i will hazzard a guess that the blade has not been modified but that it has been rescaled... the pivot pin does not look right. you will have a lot more hone wear after the frown is removed it will take somebody some work...
but that Loxely looks great!Be just and fear not.

Thanked: 0I would suggest sending JoshEarl a PM. He might be able to do a regrind, which would clean up the hone wear.
He is currently working on a similar restoration project for me.
Edit: Of course, Joe Chandler and Bill Ellis also do regrinds. And probably other people that I am not aware of.Last edited by mattg; 03-23-2008 at 02:49 AM.

Here are the pics of mine, so you can compare the sizes and some specs. for you....
OAL closed 6 1/8 inches
Blade length from point, to the edge of tang, including the shoulder 3 inches
Blade edge, to edge of shoulder, 2 15/16 inches
Blade width 11/16
And now that she is cleaned up I can tell ya they had a blued tang / tail
This one is just about done on the restore, needs some final polish, then a shaving edge put on......

Well last night I gave the Loxely and Mack a test drive... a few swipes on the CrO paddle to clear off surface tarnish, then strop and shave as usual...
I think both need Honemeister service, and I have a lot of razor burn today, BUT I did get a good "comfortable" shave, and I'm thinking the Loxely with a fresh edge might just be "the one" with the magicall whisker chasing qualities many here talk about. I like the extra heft of the large razor, it feels great and is comfortable. I did get more nicks and scrapes than usual, but I believe this is due to practicing my "scything" technique and learning the difference between slicing hair versus slicing skin.
The miniature scale Mack was delightful for touch up work and tricky areas like chin and upper lip.
