Pipe cleaners work well for me. They can be used with anything - MAAS, rubbing alcohol, etc and fit in just about anywhere!

I've always wondered how Altima55 says that he cleans "even around the pivot pin" on every one of his razors without repinning his razors, unless he does repin his razors, it's hard to tell from the Ebay pics.
Thanks for the great ideas here, guys.

I've used gun cleaning patches folded in half to give me a nice sharp "edge" to get down in there... soak it in your solvent of choice and floss like mad!

I just tried the floss around the pins on an Ontario Cutlery Co. with amber scales. It went from black and filthy to pretty clean in a couple of minutes. Great Idea!

Thanked: 3795I specifically asked Bob about that. He told me that re-pins EVERY razor he sells because it is the only way to truly clean that area. While I admire the diligence and in no way disagree with his approach, I'd rather leave intact pins alone and just clean the pivot area as well as possible. I truly disinfect all of my razors so I don't care about a little residual crud around the pivot.

Thanks Ron. I always wondered if he re-pinned and now I know. He sure does a great job at re-pinning then. It's also good to know FWIW that the razors aren't 100% original.
I believe I recall that he's a member here, but I don't recall ever seeing him post. Does anyone know why that is?

Popsicle stick or tongue depressor with a tee shirt...threadbare (hahaha) gets in the space nicely.
Tothpicks
Floss
pipe cleaners
Credit card with cloth
dental picks
etching files
3M bristle disks
Dremel disks
I took the ideas from above and popped em here for my use..
Thanks guys.
I just thought of the credit card. Flexible and tuf...I'll be trying that

Thanked: 13249Hmmmmm I like that credit card idea...Use that sucker for something other than just buying razors....
I use just about every idea up there did not think of the pipe cleaner though I will be trying that one out...
Another trick I use around the pivot pin is before I start the restore is I put 1-2 drops of KROIL on the pivot area and by the time I get to it, just plain old dental floss will clean it up (You will have to tighten the pin later)
Here is a story of a Goldedge DD that a member told us Tuesday night, in the restore chat.... He tried a dremmel clean up, and was asking what he was supposed to do about the 1/4 inch chip out of the point of the DD...
Dremmels are great tools, they can cut down on the time it takes, but one split second of inattention and they WILL destroy the blade....I don't care how long you have been using one, that blade edge will sooner or later catch the tool tip and you WILL lose a razor.... And for gods sake please throw on some glasses when you use them because when a blade lets go it is usually quite explosive....
OK that was my standard dremmel warning I'll shut up now
