    Default Removeable Pins?

    Hello All,

I posted a request for a few removeable pins in the selling/trading forum and was recommended to check in here. What I am looking for are a few removeable pins with a 1/2" finished clamp distance, brass or stainless. Ive gone to microfasteners and cant really make heads or tails of whats what there since the pictures seem to be few. That and the fact that I only need 4 pins - for 2 razor projects. So if anyone here would be willing to send me a few, I have paypal to cover costs and would be very appreciative.

    On the project itself:
The first one is a 9/8 W&B 'for barbers use' wedge in great shape that will be getting a set of clear blue acrylic scales shaped to the originals. The 2nd is a 6/8 W&B Special that I havent figured out yet, will post pictures when finished

    Thanks for any help!

    Dave

If you're talking about the little brass nuts and bolts:
    #HBB 0008 0-80 X 1/2" $7.20 (100)
    #HNBS 0080 0-80 Scale $7.20 (50)

They also sell micro wrenches for these little buggers that make life a whole lot easier! You have to ask for that on the phone however.

I just ordered some and can drop a set in an envelope for you. PM me and I'll have them in the mail Friday. I'd advise just ordering your own though. If you've started in this resto madness, you'll need more than a couple of sets sooner rather than later!

Since your finished product is 1/2" you should get the 3/4" bolts from microfasteners so you can have a little extra room.

+ 1 here I use the 1/2 inch right now, and yes they work,,, for most all razors.....BUT next time I order, I am getting the 3/4 inch just because they are easier to work with, and heck they trim just as quick and easy as can be.....

You'll probably want some washers with that:

    FWB0 100 #0 .064 1/8 .017 $3.60
    FWBW0 100 #0 wide .064 3/16 .017 $4.20
(The numbers are thickness, OD, ID.)
The wide washers are good for making domed washers. (And for covering scale holes that have gotten too big...)

waiting for my order now. as for the wrench, the customer service person told me this for online ordering. in the comment section, tell them to add part WR0(zero) and the quantity. they are $4.50 a peice. you won't see the correct price at checkout, but they should charge you for it correctly.

    Default Thanks!

Thanks for all the info guys. I am just starting into the restoration gig so I havent decided if its something that will grow on me yet, guess that will depend on how these first projects turn out. Hence, I wanted to start out with a few sets of pins first and go from there.

Many thanks to all the kind offers, a few pins are on the way and I have some work to do to prepare for them. Pics will be posted when done.

    Best,

    Dave

    Default Thanks!

    Hello All,

This Sunday found me with some time to wrap up some overdue projects, results attached.

The white backround photos are the photos that advertised the blades before purchase. The 9/8 Wade and Butcher 'For Barber's Use' Wedge came in pretty good shape. I took it apart because of corrosion concerns at the pivot and fitted it with transparent acrylic blue scales. It looked nice, but after cleaning up the original scales I decided to go back to them. Really great shaver, very different (for the better imo) from the 6/8 TIs that are my usual. The second one (with the white spot on the scale) was one I took a gamble on from ebay, it looked like a wedge but the description was fairly vague and didnt mention a size. It arrived last Friday and I was stoked, scales were toast but it was an 8/8 'For Gentleman's Use' Wedge, the blade was in great shape. At some point I'd like to put a set of faux tortoise scales on it but it is usable for now.

Thanks for all the helpful advice, and to Yul B for the hardware!

    Default Removable Pins

I found just the right pieces at Ace Hardware for removable scales. They are a bit pricie. The 0-80 nuts and bolts (up to 1/2 inch) and washers run from .17-.19 a piece. Therefore it can cost you up to $1.60 + tax per razor restore. However, they are stainless steel. You have to look but they are in your friendly Ace.

Ya gotta love them blue scales! BTW, where did you get the acrylic from? I may give that a shot myself.
