    Default wood scales.

Anyone ever use KOA to make scales? I have a couple of pieces laying around. Also how hard is it to make your own? Thanks .

May I suggest you post your question in the restoration forum? That is where the relevant experience lies.

The Polynesians still make outrigger canoes out of koa wood. It would be perfect for scales.

This would prolly be better placed in the resto section; more views.

But to answer your question, yes I just made several (have one set left even). Not bad to work with; good wieght but will scorch (turn black) easily. Not hard to fix with some sanding, but scorches easier than I expected.

    Beautiful results!

Here is a Joe Chandler restore posted a while back with Koa scales. I'm thinking they worked out okay!
