Pipe Fix
This razor called to me. I restored the blade to a mirror finish. Installed a pivot hole pushing, and installed thrust washers. I completely redid the scales. I repined it in bullseyes with a matching adjustable pivot pin. It honed up like a dream.

Thanked: 28A Question.
You have done a beautiful job on that one.
Perhaps you could help me with a question.
At the grob (the place where the back meets the point), is it obliquely ground flat both sides, sort of chisel or scraper style? Or, is that just a trick of the light in the photograph? I have recently been given a Wostenholm with the grob ground in that manner. I had taken it to be evidence of past abuse, but it looks as though it perhaps should be like that - a sort of Wostenholm "house style".
Thanks for your help,
Duncan.

The grob as you say in the photos is actually rather square. It's just buffed a little. I have one pipe unrestored that is very square. I think honing wear would not affect the area just below the spine. If there is wear at this point, it is over honed.
I hope this helps.

Thanked: 2209Very nice work!
One question...what is a thrust washer? An inside the scale bushing/washer of some special shape?

Thanked: 28Thank you for your reply. It is definitely not hone wear. The grob has been ground deliberately to a slightly blunt chisel-like form. The ground surfaces are mirror polished to match the rest of the blade. My first thought was that this was razor abuse - that it had been ground for use as a scraper. However, there is no evidence of use as a scraper - the mirror polish on the ground surfaces is unscratched. Now I am tending towards the view that it is the original grind of the blade.
I wonder, does anyone else out there have a razor with this sort of unusual tip?
