    Default Black scales for Friodur

Hey everyone... My lovely wife just bought me a J.A. Henckels Friodur, Stainless Steel 7/8" razor with a Spanish Point for my 40th birthday.

    http://www.vintagebladesllc.com/vsho...es//d_1131.jpg

This one is special w/ sentimental value. Any recommendations for someone to make custom scales for my new favorite razor? The stock ones are pretty weak. I'm partial to black or dark colors -- neutral on materials. I'm wondering how tough it would be to incorporate a Henckels logo, etc.. I'm also considering scales with a custom shape.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

Dark scales huh? I have been doing scales in Carbon Fiber (you can see them in restoration threads). If interested, let me know! I have one guy I'm going to do a set for who was talking to Oldblades to see if it is possible to laser cut CF and do an inlay that way. We have to see if it works out.

    Philly's CF scales are excellent!

If you are looking more natural, I have several woods that are dark and can customize a 1pc style for you. Currently for dark stuff, I have some Hawaiian Koa, Brazillian cherry, Ipe (ironwood) and mahogany. For non-wood, I have some dark Corian (dark gray, granite color).

I just did my 7/8 Friodur (exact same razor) in Corian; came out excellent!

    PM if you'd like...

Ebony, ironwood or I have some very dark cocobolo a lot darker than in my "Scales" thread might be some ideas. I dont have any ebony or ironwood at the moment, but if your interested in the cocobolo PM me. I could sell ya a chunk or cut some basic blank scales for you.

Denmason makes the most incredible Black and White ebony scales that would look lush on that Henckels.

Also check out Alex's Carbon Fibre ones. Also equally awesome on a Friodur.

Thanks gang! Great feedback and ideas.

Is it possible to inlay graphics into black ebony scales?

I'm digging the carbon fiber too.

It is possible, yes. The only way to do it well in my opinion is with a laser. Oldblades does this. I think he's about the only one. Don't know how much it would be either. If that's what you want and you want it in wood, I'd PM him directly.

At the risk of posting from the Department of Redundance Department ....

Philly's carbon fiber scales are too cool; modern feel for a cherry vintage blade!
