Scales
I'm a total newbie here but am very excited about all this and have started making some scales out of different scraps I had laying around. Just wanted to show them and get a little feedback of what y'all think.

I'm in the final hand sanding of 4 manzanita scales. Can't wait to see them finnished... hope they survive pinning I'm seriously considering nylon washers for them to ease the shocks of pinning.

Very nicely done. I'm getting some blanks soon and will be attempting a few myself.
I like the edge grain on many woods more so than the plank. Of course the edge grain doesn't have the strength to work as a scale but perhaps a thin, composite or metal plate adhered to the inside might do the trick.
Sorry for rambling.
Again, nice work.

You know I almost cut out end grain for that purpose out of some spalted maple I have but knew it wouldnt hold. The metal is a good idea.
