Default American razors harder to restore?

I have a Geneva brand that I am restoring, and it seems to be taking FOREVER. I previously sanded down a German brand that seemed to take ¼ of the time. Is the American steel harder? I seem to sand and sand and sand to get the previous grit marks out. Currently been working off and on with it for over a month and I’m only at 320 grit.

The Geneva razors are Chrome plated (usually) Chrome is very hard 63/69 RC,if that is the case with your razor you will be a long time getting through the chrome.you can have the chrome stripped at a bumper plating shop,or tool and die shop.Best regards Gary

Thanks Gary. I don't want to resort having to take it out to get the chrome romoved. I guess I will just keep sanding my life away. Maybe I will be done by the end of summer. Thanks again for the info.
