Thanked: 0Wonderedge... to sand or not to sand...
A Wonderedge I bought on ebay arrived today. The box it came in says it is a 5/8 round point but the blade is really a 6/8 round. Scales are in very good shape but the blade has some pitting in it as shown in the pics. A couple feel fairly deep.
Any thoughts on if I should just leave it as is or try hand sanding out the pits?
Thanks,
Shawn

Thanked: 13249WE's have one of the thinest blades you are going to find, as I am sure you have already realized... So if you are going to sand, you have to start with the assumption that all those pits are not coming out of there... If it were me I would start with a 400-600 grit and see how it looks, starting with a 220 or 320 might remove too much metal from the blade...
Be very, very, careful,,,, they are one of the most fragile blades around...

Thanked: 735How about starting with just some polish to see how it looks after that? It may improve the cosmetics to a point where you may feel you don't have to sand it, since appparently there are some hazards (to the razor) associated with sanding a W.E.?

Thanks for the warning. Might just leave it well enough alone then since I obviously don't want to mess this up.

It really doesn't look that bad in the pics. if the metal polish isn't enough get some cape cod cloths they contain more abrasive and you should be able to at least soften the pits.

Thanked: 3795I have a spike point WE, I've seen round point WE's, but this looks more like a french point. I didn't know WonderEdges made a french point.

Thanked: 0It isn't a french point, that is just from the perspective of the picture. The heel is further away then the edge in the picture.

If my intention was to shave with that razor as I'm assuming your intention is, I would do nothing more than try to remove some of the oxidation with an extremely light touch. I can speak from experience that hand sanding and extra hollow ground razors make for a risky combination. It's so easy to screw up the flatness of the edge with repeated pressure, even light pressure.
