    Default Paint

I have a wonderful razor which I love, a Fili 13. Unfortunately, it has the most boring, plain black plastic scales. My wife, who is a talented artist, has offered to do a miniature botanical painting on one or both scales. My question is, what paint should be used and what kind of top coat should go over the finished painting (if any), considering the rigors to which it will be subjected. Any experienced advice is welcome and will be appreciated.

I would sand the scales with 320 to get rid of the gloss and give the primer some tooth to hold on to. I would prime with dewaxed shellac. I would use a good quality acrylic for the paint and top coat, acrylics tend to stay flexible which would good in this case where the scales are constantly flexing to some degree. I think the key to promoting adhesion would be to keep a thin film thickness and use a flexible medium.

I will send you a pm with the email of a real expert.

Just make extra sure the scales are plastic and not celluloid. Celluloid doesn't like chemicals of any kind.
