Wood Scales
I just got a Clauss razor from Cobo. The scales on it are alright, but a little warped in the middle and they are almost identical to my other razor. So I was thinking of getting some nice burl wood or something and crafting custom scales for it. What do you guys coat your wood scales with to keep it from absorbing water and rusting the blade?

Read everything there and then order Bill Ellis' cd (near the bottom).

So you coat the scales in Krazy Glue? Isn't that messy?

Thanked: 13247Hehehe,,,, Don't get the wrong idea, most of us use a product called Hot Stuff that is a little easier to work with, and that comes in 3 different thicknesses....
CA finishes need a little work to get correct, and some practice with it...
I always recommend a wipe on Poly or a Tung oil type finish if you are not experienced with wood finishes, good results are a little bit easier to obtain...
I have said this a few times in other posts but Popsicle sticks are an easy, and cheep practice set of scales, have fun !!!

Thanked: 31Two words: propane torch. That'll "finish" any wood scales you have lying around.
