    Default Wedge

I was wondering how one gauges the size of the spacer/wedge at the end of a razor when making the scales. The old one is lead and I think has been smooshed down a bit over time.

It basically depends on the razor, thicker tang = thicker wedge but unless it is one of the huge monster wedges or 8/8 monsters if you start at 1/8 in and taper it from there you should be fine....

You're going to find that you need to be careful making "rules" when it comes to restoring straights.... Because what applies to one might not apply to the next....

i have gone both routes based off of desired finish/needs/wants. this weekend, i finished 2 restores and used 2 diffeent shapes. i used a tapered spacer on one and a symetrical spacer on the other. to me i do it based off of the shape of the scales. the more that i smooth out and thin out my scales, i like the look of a taper. but i like some of the more blocky scales also, and tend to use a more 'squarish' in thickness spacer.

to each their own and just enjoy it. worse case, break em and do it again.
