Warped mother of pearl handle...
I bought this nice Fram razor from an antique store with mother of pearl scales. It wasn't until I got it home that I noticed that one of the scales is warped. So when you go to close it, if you're not careful the blade will catch the handle.
I've heard that dipping them in boiling water then pressing them immediately will flatten them. I really just don't have the know-how to take them apart and put it back together. I'd also like to keep everything the way I found them originally.
Could I possibly dip the scales in boiling water and then place a wedge of some sort in them and let it sit for a while? Or would that make everything worse?

Similar thread right there. I don't know if anyone has tried with MOP scales though. Also, results are not always the same and it is pretty much a big gamble.

The boiling water trick works well with celluloid and, to a lesser extent, with horn. I would be VERY careful boiling up genuine MOP as this is a sedimentary product and I can see it delaminating easily. Do you really want to take a chance or, instead, just take care closing it? I know what I'd choose.........!!

There's no way I want to risk damaging it. It's a really nice Julius Mandler and Sohn made in Germany. It would be nice for it to close with no problems, but I'd rather be careful closing it than risk destroying it.

You should PM Peter in Australia, he does fantastic work with MOP, I think his username is bg42, but dont hold me to it, he might know how to correct the situation.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain
