Recently, I have found that websites selling conservation and restoration supplies also provide products that would be useful to those restoring razors.
I see that the question of how to preserve/ restore etchings comes of from time to time, and I had recently found a product that sounded like it might help with this process, but unfortunately my computer crashed, taking all my internet files with it
So, in the hope that someone else might have come across this item, or maybe that a member here is employed in this particular field, I'm asking for help in finding it again.
The product in question was some type of film or sheet (not sure if it is carbon-based or a chemical/ gel product) that could be used to take a 3D impression of etchings and engravings that were no longer visible to the naked eye, the resulting facsimilie could then be used as a template when preserving the original engraving.
Obviously, for this to work with razors one would need some type of etching kit, but for the obsessive compulsives amongst us, an exact copy of the original etchings or engravings would be a good start.
So, can anyone help me? Or maybe recommend a similiar product.
Kind regards,
Alex
