Default How do you replace a handle?

So I bought a $60 Dovo razor because it was the cheapest, new, carbon steel razor I could find (my first straight razor). I just ordered a replacement handle from classicshaving.com because I wanted to make it look nicer. It currently has a cheap, black plastic handle.

Now my problem is I don't know how to change the handle. The new handle came with a tiny nail, two small washers, and an even smaller washer. The web site said i would have to drill a hole in the handle, but that is all they said about it.

I'm super excited about putting a sweet handle on my razor, so if you can help me out with some instructions I would appreciate it very much.

    Cheers.

There are quite a few posts in the workshop forum and at least one in the Wiki that deal with repinning. Do a little reading and if you still have questions the guys in the workshop forum are your best resource. I never realized just how plain my razor looked until I saw some of the projects they're doing there.

Do a search on "scale replacement" and such. FYI th e"handles" are called "scales". That wil help you alot in your search.

Measure out the hole, make sure you drill the hole with a spacer in between the scales !!!!! If you don't use a spacer the chance of the hole being straight just went way down... it does not have to be a tang jig any piece of wood that keeps the scales straight when you drill will work...

The two larger washers are thrust, or bearing washers, they go between the razor tang and the scales, the tiny one is a lock washer...
The cup in the small lock washer goes toward the scales the "Nail" head goes on the show side of the razor. To press the lock washer on use the hole in the old scale and press it tight..

clip it, file it, and peen it...

The Wiki is becoming more and more of a true resource.... Read these two threads and they will explain most of what you are asking, and most of the terms I used....
