Hah! No right answer here. That is like the eternal question. Anyway you do it, make sure YOU will be happy with the result. i.e. if you start to sand prepare yourself ahead of time if the etching disappears. Sorry I can't help further! No one REALLY can. It's all up to you.

If you really go off the deep end in restoration, have the time, ingenuity, patience, funding, etc, it's possible to make an image of the current etch, sand/restore and re-etch the blade. It's been done but it wouldn't be easy starting from scratch in that area.
In short, I agree with what Alex said.

Thanked: 1Has anyone tried the salt-water/DC electrical etching on a carbon or SS blade around here? I'm thinking of trying it out, but don't know how well it will work on steel.
