Thanked: 74Finishing Micarta?
Anyone have any experience with micarta?
I have shaped a set of scales and am wondering how to finish them. I was thinking about CA, with a nice high shine. But, now that I fondle them a little I kinda like the tactile feeling of the unfinished rough sanded product. Is there any reason that I would need to seal them with something?

For the most part no. With micarta like Linen or canvas if you leave it roughly sanded, some "threads" might stick out which could maybe be a receptor for water, but I'm only guessing. I doubt water would even be an issue then though because of the resins used. Personally, I sand them up to 2000 grit, polish, then wax.

I've heard very good things about Renaissance Wax. You can find it online or at your local Woodcraft store.

I like the tactile feel as you call it. I was in the same boat as you, and decided to leave it at a 2000 grit finish. I love the way they feel in my hands. All my others are slick, so it's a nice change.
